My DTUI6 co-authors-Ben Shneiderman, Catherine Plaisant, Maxine Cohen, and Nick Diakopoulos-and I recently extracted our list of challenges from Designing the User Interface (6th Edition) and published it as an article in ACM Interactions magazine. Please take a look at the article here. In short, the challenges we identify are the following:

  1. Develop a handbook of human needs
  2. Shift from user experience to community experience
  3. Refine theories of persuasion
  4. Encourage resource conservation
  5. Shape the learning health system
  6. Advance the design of medical devices
  7. Support successful aging strategies
  8. Promote lifelong learning
  9. Stimulate rapid interface learning
  10. Engineer new business models
  11. Design novel input and output devices
  12. Accelerate analytic clarity
  13. Amplify empathy, compassion, and caring
  14. Secure cyberspace
  15. Encourage reflection, calmness, and mindfulness
  16. Clarify responsibility and accountability

I am very excited to be part of such a dynamic, insightful, and forward-thinking author team. Please read our book for more like this!
