My DTUI6 co-authors-Ben Shneiderman, Catherine Plaisant, Maxine Cohen, and Nick Diakopoulos-and I recently extracted our list of challenges from Designing the User Interface (6th Edition) and published it as an article in ACM Interactions magazine. Please take a look at the article here. In short, the challenges we identify are the following:
- Develop a handbook of human needs
- Shift from user experience to community experience
- Refine theories of persuasion
- Encourage resource conservation
- Shape the learning health system
- Advance the design of medical devices
- Support successful aging strategies
- Promote lifelong learning
- Stimulate rapid interface learning
- Engineer new business models
- Design novel input and output devices
- Accelerate analytic clarity
- Amplify empathy, compassion, and caring
- Secure cyberspace
- Encourage reflection, calmness, and mindfulness
- Clarify responsibility and accountability
I am very excited to be part of such a dynamic, insightful, and forward-thinking author team. Please read our book for more like this!
